Texas — A Texas woman filed a lawsuit against 3M and three other defendants, demanding over $1 million in damages related to use of a Bair Hugger Warming Blanket during knee replacement surgery.
According to court documents, Ruth Childers underwent the procedure in December 2013. During surgery, she incurred a bacterial infection in the joint which ultimately led to the amputation of her leg above the knee. Her lawsuit also names an Arizant Healthcare sales representative based in Texas, the physician responsible for the surgery, and the hospital where the procedure took place.
Ms. Childers’ lawsuit insists that “the defendants actively and knowingly concealed the propensity of these devices to cause infection in orthopedic implant surgeries.”
