Essure Drug Lawsuit Source

Essure Birth Control Recall Information

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently ordered Bayer Healthcare, the Essure manufacturer, to launch new clinical trials for the controversial birth control device.

The FDA called for a black-box warning, which is considered the strongest of its warnings, in packaging. The agency also directed Bayer to develop a “decision checklist” that patients would sign before receiving the device to show that they understand its potential risks.

The FDA has received more than 5,000 complaints of adverse effects, including organ perforation, pelvic pain, unintended pregnancies and abnormal bleeding. However, the agency has not ordered the withdrawal (or recall) of Essure birth control from the market, nor has the agency lifted legal protections imposed on Essure during development that shield the manufacturer from later product-liability lawsuits.

The birth control device has been advertised as safe, effective permanent birth control without drugs or surgery. However, thousands of women across the country have complained the device has caused severe pain, miscarriages and serious injuries due to fragmentation and/or migration.

The controversial device has also reportedly been linked to hair loss and memory lapses.
