File a Viagra Melanoma Skin Cancer Lawsuit

There have been dozens of lawsuits filed on behalf of individuals who have allegedly developed melanoma skin cancer due to ingesting Viagra.

There are currently 31 federal cases filed around the country, including 28 in federal courts in 13 states, according to AL.com. Three lawsuits have also been filed in state courts in Missouri, Arizona and Connecticut.

The lawsuits all make similar claims regarding Pfizer’s design, manufacture, sale, testing, marketing, advertising, promotion, and distribution of Viagra.

A federal panel recently consolidated all federal Viagra cases under one judge in northern California for efficiency. The federal judges on the panel reportedly issued the Transfer Order on April 7, 2016 after hearing arguments from attorneys for Pfizer and from attorneys representing plaintiffs.

The court proceedings have been assigned to the U.S. District Court Judge Richard Seeborg of the Northern District of California. Seeborg will also preside over all future Viagra suits as they are filed.

What Are The Symptoms of Melanoma?

Melanoma, considered the most serious type of skin cancer, develops in the cells (melanocytes) that produce melanin — the pigment that gives your skin its color. Melanoma can also form in your eyes and, rarely, in internal organs, such as your intestines.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the first melanoma signs and symptoms often are:

  • A change in an existing mole.*
  • The development of a new pigmented or unusual-looking growth on your skin.

The American Academy of Dermatology advises watching skin spots for these features:

  • Asymmetry
  • Border irregularity
  • Color changes
  • Diameter greater than 1/4 inch (about 6 millimeters)
  • Evolving

*Melanoma doesn’t always begin as a mole. It can also occur on otherwise normal-appearing skin.

A 2014 medical study linked Viagra to an increased risk of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. The drug’s label fails to warn about this potential side effect.

Of the men who never used Viagra, 4.3 out of every 1,000 developed melanoma. Of the men who reported using Viagra, 8.6 men out of every 1,000 developed melanoma — an 84% increase.

Make an appointment with your doctor if you notice any skin changes that seem unusual.

What are the Criteria for Filing a Viagra Lawsuit?

A preliminary study indicates the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra (sildenafil) may increase the risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

The study, published in the JAMA Internal Medicine journal, analyzed data from nearly 26,000 men, 6 percent of whom had taken Viagra.

The men who used Viagra at some point in their lives had about double the risk of developing melanoma compared to men who had never taken the drug. Men who were currently taking Viagra were at an 84 percent greater risk of developing melanoma.

We are currently looking at cases involving men who are taking or have taken Viagra and were diagnosed with melanoma.
