SAN ANTONIO — In a new development regarding the Essure debate, My San Antonio reported that protesters took to the Midland Federal Court House to heighten awareness of pending Essure litigation.
Protesters like Kristen Jones claim that although the device and its implantation procedure was touted as a safe birth control method, the device is frequently associated with major health risks.
“About three days after is when my symptoms started with the bloating, abdominal pain, hair loss. I get dizziness, joint pains,” Jones said when describing her Essure experience after implantation. “I’ve gained weight, and I’ve lost weight. I’ve gotten to a point lately where I don’t have an appetite anymore.”
Contrary to Bayer AG claims, victims like Jones though are far from uncommon. A Facebook group totaling 19,000 members has been created to foster a community of outrage against the Bayer AG device.
Dr. Edio Zampaglione. vice president of medical affairs for women’s health at Bayer, said that while there have been 5,000 FDA complaints, they make up a minute fraction of the 750,000 Essure devices implanted into consumers.
However, Essure users like Kristen Jones stand on the idea that even a fraction of total users suffering from major health complications must be taken seriously. Jones’ Essure complications are so severe that it will require a hysterectomy for her to regain the quality of life she once enjoyed.
