BATON ROUGE — Executrixes in Louisiana have filed a lawsuit against 3M on behalf of their decedent who allegedly died due to a Bair Hugger Forced Air Warming Device infection, as reported by the Louisiana Record.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana on April 26 against 3M as well as Arizant Healthcare Inc.
The lawsuit claims that the defendants were negligent and breached the express warranty of their product.
The plaintiffs descendant underwent cardiac surgery in May of 2014, during which the Bair Hugger device was utilized. Allegedly, it was the use of the device that led to the development of a serious surgical site infection in the patient, which ultimately led to his death in September of the same year.
Because the defendants developed and took the reportedly defective device to market, the plaintiffs claim that they concealed knowledge of dangerous risks associated with the device.
