Anastaja Forshier Named 2016 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship Winner

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Drug Lawsuit Source is pleased to announce that Anastaja Forshier, of Zephyrhills, Fla., has been named this year’s recipient of the 2016 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship.

Forshier, 27, will use the scholarship funds to pursue a double major in event management and hospitality management at the University of Central Florida.

“I am so psyched for it,” Forshier said upon learning she won the scholarship. “I’m trying to buy a house right now so everything that cuts down on the cost of my education helps.”

Forshier is attempting to become the first member of her family to earn a college degree. Her mother tried to earn a bachelor degree but stopped to raise Anastaja and her brother and her father dropped out of middle school and after years in and out of the prison system, was sentenced to 60 years without chance of parole.

To do this, she juggles raising her 6-year-old son, Nevan, with the hour-plus one-way commute between UCF and Zephyrhills, being a full-time employee at Cracker Barrel and a part-time employee at Amalie Arena (home of the Tampa Bay Lightning). Forshier and her son do their homework together and hopes her commitment to her education sets a good example for him.

And as the saying goes, it takes a village to raise the child Forshier calls her biggest fan and greatest motivation.

“I got incredibly lucky,” Forshier said of her support system, pointing out her ex-husband’s mother specifically. “She’s amazing. My mother is, too, but she’s great.”

Forshier is planning a “super-party” for her graduation on May 6 and her mother’s birthday May 8. Forshier described her mother as her biggest cheerleader.

Each year, the Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship awards $1,000 to one student.

The scholarship is available to a student of any age who is a single parent helping to raise at least one child, currently enrolled in a high school, trade school, apprentice school, junior college, college, university or graduate school in the United States with a GPA of 2.7 or higher.

The deadline to apply for the 2016 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship was Nov. 1, 2016. Details for the 2017 Drug Lawsuit Source Single Parent Scholarship will be posted in the near future.
