NEW YORK — U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin recently dismissed with prejudice nearly 50 suits from women against C.R. Bard and other parties responsible for allegedly defective implants, according to a report by Law360.

It was stated that their claims had been “compromised and settled”, however the agreement details are currently unknown.

There are currently 10,000 cases pending against Bard in the multidistrict litigation in West Virginia, with a total of 70,000 cases in seven separate MDL’s pending against other mesh device manufacturers, according to court records.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reclassified pelvic mesh devices as high-risk devices that must go through the strictest safety evaluations before being place on the market.

In light of the multidistrict litigation in West Virginia containing thousands of cases, firms have recently began trying to transfer cases to Pennsylvanian federal court. This is an attempt to settle cases in a more timely fashion, however, firms have not given more information on the status of these attempts.
