CARSON CITY, NV — Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals was recently found guilty of improperly marketing Risperdal to children and elderly patients. The guilty verdict will see Janssen Pharmaceuticals pay a total of $181 million, with $3.3 million of it being paid to the State of Nevada, as reported by Fox Las Vegas.
The settlement will be spread to 37 states. According to Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, the lawsuit claimed that Janssen was unfair and deceptive in its marketing practices as it promoted the drug for unapproved uses.
With Janssen deceiving consumers, many never knew of the dangers they were exposing themselves to by taking the drug intended for adult schizophrenics.
Attorney General Masto stated that “Nevadans have a right to know the risks presented by atypical anti-psychotics drugs, the settlement will protect Nevadans from further promotion of Janssen’s atypical anti-psychotic drugs for “off-label” uses.”
