PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Attorney General of Rhode Island announced that the state had recovered nearly $8.1 million to be put back into the Medicaid budget, according to the Providence Journal.
In addition to the Risperdal settlement with Johnson & Johnson, Rhode Island entered into 15 settlements with pharmaceutical companies that totaled $6.8 million to go back into the Medicaid budget.
The Risperdal settlement was by far the largest settlement received. The settlement totaled $5.6 million to resolve civil and criminal charges against Johnson & Johnson and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Allegations included deceptive marketing practices when promoting Risperdal for unapproved uses.
The remaining $1.2 million come from other civil penalties regarding other allegations against pharmaceutical companies.
